Additional information

A study was conducted to assess the ready biodegradability of the test substance according to OECD Guideline 301D, EPA Guideline OPPTS 835.3110 and EU Method C.4-E, in compliance with GLP. Microbial inoculum (0.5 mL/L) was added to each preparation bottle of test substance, reference control (sodium benzoate), inoculum control and toxicity control and kept at a constant temperature (22±2°C) for up to 28 d. Degradation was assessed by the determination of Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) on Days 7, 14, 16, 21 and 28. The test substance degraded 2.5% by 28 d. The reference compound showed 82.5% degradation after 28 d incubation. In the toxicity control containing both, the test substance and the reference control, means of 40.5% and 40.1% biodegradation were noted within 14 and 28 d of incubation, respectively. The test substance can be assumed to bot not inhibitory at the applied concentration level of 2.6 mg/L on the activated sludge microorganisms as degradation was above 25% within 14 d. Hence, under the study conditions, the test substance was considered to be ‘not readily biodegradable’ (Sipos K, 2014a).
