Additional information

Conclusion on classification

Classification relevant information

Biodegradation:

·        Not readily biodegradable (22%, based on CO2 evolution) within 28 d (OECD 301 B)

Bioaccumulation:

·        log Kow: 3.39 (OECD 117, HPLC method)

Acute toxicity:

·        to fish: LC50 (96 h) = 10.1 mg/L (measured, geom. mean) for Danio rerio (OECD 203)

·        to aquatic invertebrates: EC50 (48 h) > 1.2 mg/L (mean measured, corresponding to 100 mg/L nominal) for Daphnia magna (OECD 202)

·        to aquatic algae: EC50 (72 h) > 0.68 mg/L (mean measured, corresponding to 100 mg/L nominal) for Desmodesmus subspicatus based on growth rate (OECD 201)

Chronic toxicity:

·        to algae: NOEC (72 h) = 0.21 mg/L (mean measured) for Desmodesmus subspicatus based on growth rate (OECD 201)

Classification justification according to CLP

Based on the data above the substance (CAS 72869-86-4) is not rapidly biodegradable. Acute aquatic toxicity data are available for three trophic levels. The lowest acute effect value was determined for fish and amounts 10.1 mg/L (LC50, 96 h). Chronic toxicity data are available only for algae with a NOEC of 0.21 mg/L. Therefore, the substance needs to be classified and labelled as hazardous to the environment Chronic 2 H411 according to the consolidated version of Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 and further amendments (ATPs).
