Short-term toxicity data are available for three trophic levels (fish, Daphnia and algae) for N-methyl-N-(C18-(unsaturated)alkanoyl)glycine (EC 701-177-3). The short-term toxicity to fish was determined in two studies according to internationally accepted guidelines (OECD 203 and EU Method C.1.). The available studies determined no effects on fish up to the water solubility of the substance. The short-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates was assessed in two studies according to OECD 202 and EU method C.2 respectively. The lowest reported effect concentration is an EC50 (48 h) of 0.43 mg/L (measured). The toxicity to aquatic algae was tested in two studies according to OECD 201 resulting in an ErC50 (72 h) > 4.4 mg/L (measured) and a NOErC (72 h) of 0.91 mg/L (measured) respectively. In addition, a study investigating the long-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates is available. This study was performed according to OECD 211 (GLP) with Daphnia magna under semi-static conditions. A high mortality of parental Daphnids was observed for the two highest test concentrations of. 46 and 100 mg/L, nominal. Only one parental daphnid survived until the test end (day 21) at a test nominal concentration of 46 mg/L (0.183 mg/L meas. TWA) and no parental animals survived at 100 mg/L nominal. However, no significant effect on the reproduction rate was determined at a nominal test concentration of 48 mg/L (183 µg/L, meas. TWA). Thus the NOEC (21d) was determined to be ≥ 183 µg/L (meas. TWA).

Two studies determined the toxicity to microorganisms according to OECD 209. The EC50 (3 h) was > 100 mg/L and the NOEC (3h) was 10 mg/L.
