Additional information

PNECs were derived using freshwater experimental ecotoxicity results for 2-methylpropane-2-thiol along with QSAR calculated results for BCF and calculated results for Koc and Henry's Law Constant. The PNECS derived using experimental data were based on Klimisch 1 or 2 studies (Klimisch et al 1997).

Conclusion on classification

The results of these studies indicate that 2-methylpropane-2-thiol would be classified as chronic category 2 under GHS, with the hazard phrase "toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects". The substance would be classified as R51/ R53 under the DSD, with the hazard phrase "toxic to aquatic organisms and may cause long term adverse effects in the aquatic environment".
