Description of key information

Currently, no aquatic studies are available with ammonium hexafluorosilicate. However, sodium hexafluorosilicate has been evaluated for the potential to cause toxicity to Daphnia magna and freshwater green alga Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata. The studies were performed in accordance to OECD Guidelines 202 and 201 and in compliance with GLP.

Additional information

Daphnia was exposed to sodium hexafluorosilicate in water solutions of concentrations of 6.25, 12.5, 25.0, 50.0 and 100 mg/L. In this study, 48 h EC50 was determined to be 35.4 mg/l and NOEC and NOEL were calculated to be 25 & 50 mg/l respectively.

In alga test the EC50-values with 95 % confidence intervals for inhibition of specific growth rate (ErC50) and yield (EyC50) after 72 hours were 18.0 (16.6 – 19.6) mg/L and 14.9 (10.6 – 27.8) mg/L, respectively. The NOEC-value for inhibition of specific growth rate and yield after 72 hours was 10.0 mg/L.
