Endpoint:
density
Remarks:
density
Type of information:
migrated information: read-across based on grouping of substances (category approach)
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
1999
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
other: Determination of density by a scientifically accepted method. Read across concerns a product containing a substance.
Justification for type of information:
REPORTING FORMAT FOR THE ANALOGUE APPROACH
1. HYPOTHESIS FOR THE ANALOGUE APPROACH
Propanoic acid, 2-hydroxy-, C12-15-alkyl esters / 93925-36-1 / 300-338-1 contains the C12 and C14 alkyl lactates also present in Propanoic acid, 2-hydroxy, C12-C16 (even numbered) alkyl esters. The relative density of the second one is expected to be very similar if not equal to the first one.
2. SOURCE AND TARGET CHEMICALS
Both the target and the analogue are produced by esterification of fatty acids and lactate.
3. ANALOGUE APPROACH JUSTIFICATION
Since there is a significant overlap and similarity between the analogue measured and the target substance, read-across is here justified for density.
Qualifier:

Guideline:
OECD Guideline 109 (Density of Liquids and Solids)
GLP compliance:
no
Type of method:
oscillating densitimeter
Remarks:
Mettler model DA-300 Density Meter
Specific details on test material used for the study:

Key result
Type:
density
Density:
>= 0.9 - <= 0.92 g/cm³
Temp.:
25 °C
Conclusions:
Density of dodecyl lactate approximates 0.9 at a temperature of 25°C, based on results of a test with C12-15 alkyl lactates.

Description of key information

The key value is based on read across from a mixture of alkyla lactates containing C12 to C15 chains.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Relative density at 20C:
0.9
