Additional information

There are no data available on the terrestrial toxicity of D-Glucopyranose, oligomeric, undecyl glycoside (CAS 98283-67-1). However, there are reliable data for category member substances, which are considered suitable for read-across based on a category approach. This read-across is in accordance with the Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 Annex XI, 1.5 and is justified in the overall summary of IUCLID Chapter 6.1 and in detail within the category justification attached in IUCLID Section 13.

A published study in which the short-term toxicity of D-Glucopyranose, oligomeric, C10-16-alkyl glycosides (CAS 110615-47-9) to soil macroorganisms as well as to terrestrial plants was investigated is available (Steber et al., 1995). The test with the earthworm Eisenia sp. was conducted according to OECD guideline 207. Earthworms were exposed to a maximum test concentration of 654 mg/kg (nominal) for 14 d and no effects were observed up to this concentration. The authors came to the same result in the test with 3 terrestrial plants, conducted according to OECD guideline 208. No adverse effects on the germination of the seeds were observed in the highest test concentration of 654 mg/kg after 14 d of exposure.

In conclusion, no toxicity of D-Glucopyranose, oligomeric, undecyl glycoside (CAS 98283-67-1) to terrestrial organisms is expected based on both, the ready biodegradability of the substance and the results of the terrestrial toxicity tests with a category member as described above.
