Description of key information

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Justification:Column 2 criteria of Annex VIII for adsorption/desorption screening testing of trichlorosilane provide the following adaptations to required testing data:

The study need not be conducted if

·                   based on the physico-chemical properties the substance can be expected to have a low potential for adsorption (e.g. the substance has a low octanol/water partition coefficient), or

·                   the substance and its degradation products decompose rapidly.

Trichlorosilane is an inorganic liquid substance which hydrolizes immediately and completely upon contact with water. For that reason, no experimental testing for this property could be performed with trichlorosilane.

Overall, adsorption/desorption is not considered to be important environmental fate process for trichlorosilane.
