Description of key information

Ethylene is expected to be readily biodegradable.

Additional information

As ethylene is a gas at standard temperature and pressure conducting a standard ready biodegradability test is technically difficult and based on exposure estimates the test may not be relevant. Therefore, the QSARs BioHCwin and Biowin (Howard et al. 2005) were used to predict biodegradability of ethylene. The results indicate that ethylene is expected to biodegrade rapidly, therefore it is considered not P/vP. The half-life estimated from BioHCwin for ethylene is 2.91 days.
