Description of key information

A melting point threshold of 660⁰C was determined.

Additional information

Aluminum dross consists of constituents with different melting points. A melting threshold was determined for the whole substance, based on the melting points of the individual constituents. The values were found on Perry's Chemical Engineers' Handbook, table 3-1. and Materials Science and Engineering: An Introduction. W.D. Callister, Jr. Second Edition Handbook. The melting point of Aluminum, which is the constituent with the lowest melting point, was used to determine the melting point threshold of the whole substance. The threshold is 660C. Aluminum Oxide, which is the most common constituent melts at around 2000C.
