Biodegradation in water: screening tests

Description of key information

Several studies have been identified as having assessed the biodegradation in water (screening test). The key study follows a guideline similar to OECD 301D and the supporting study follows EU Method C.4-D. Both studies conclude that tetrahydrofuran is not readily biodegradable but is inherently biodegradable. 
Three studies have been identified as having assessed the inherent biodegradability of tetrahydrofuran. All three studies conclude that tetrahydrofuran is inherently biodegradable.

Additional information

The key ready biodegradability study concluded that tetrahydrofuran did not readily biodegrade within 28 days. However after prolonged exposure, it was found to be inherently biodegradable. The supporting studies confirm that tetrahydrofuran is inherently biodegradable.
