Description of key information

Fatty acids, C16-18, 2-ethylhexyl esters were read-across to Fatty acids, C16-18, 2-ethylhexyl esters and was shown to be readily biodegradable with a biodegradation of 76 to 81 % after 28 days (OECD 301B).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

No test is available for the ready biodegradability of Fatty acids, C16-18, 2-ethylhexyl esters, however for the structurally related substance, Fatty acids, C16-18 and C18-unsatd., 2-ethylhexyl esters (CAS: 85049-37-2) an OECD 301 B test is available(Van der Kerken 1995). The biodegradation of 10 mg/L DOC (nominal) of the test substance was monitored for 28 days. After 28 days, 76 to 81% of the initial test substance was degraded. This result is in consistence with all further members of the category for which ready biodegradability was observed.

Based on these findings, the substance Fatty acids, C16-18, 2-ethylhexyl esters is considered to be readily biodegradable.
