Preliminary Test

Three test mixtures with the test item and cellulose 2:1 did not burn down completely, the flame

extinguished after 13 s, 28 s and 28 s.

Three test mixtures with barium nitrate/cellulose 2:1 burned down completely in 73 s, 68 s and 74 s,

respectively.

Due to the results of the preliminary test the full test had to be performed.

Main Test

Three tests were performed for the reference mixture (barium nitrate and cellulose) with 50, 60 and

70 wt. % oxidizer (barium nitrate).

The highest burning rate 1 .27 mm/s was found for the mixture with 60 wt.% oxidizer.

Mixtures of the test item with cellulose were prepared between 10 and 50 wt.% and tested.

Additional tests with 15, 75 and 100 % were performed.

Due to the fact, that the maximum burning rate of the mixtures of the test item with cellulose is lower

than the burning rate of the reference mixture, six additional tests for the test item mixture were

performed for the mixtures with the highest burning rates of 2, 5 and 10 wt. % of the test item.

The maximum burning rate of the mixtures of the test item and cellulose (0.89 mm/s) was less than

the maximum burning rate of the reference mixture of cellulose and barium nitrate (1.27 mm/s).

Due to the fact that the mixture of the test item with cellulose burned slower compared to the reference

mixture, or the flame extinguished before the pre-burning phase was finished, it was concluded that

the test item has no oxidizing properties.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Interpretation of results:
other: no oxidising properties
Remarks:
Migrated information
Conclusions:
Due to the fact that the mixture of the test item with cellulose burned slower compared to the reference
mixture, or the flame extinguished before the pre-burning phase was finished, it was concluded that
the test item has no oxidizing properties.
Executive summary:

Oxidising properties of the test item were assessed by EU method A.17. The test item had no oxidizing properties in the sense of the European Commission Regulation (EC) No.440/2008, Method A.17.
