Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Reaction mass of cerium dioxide and zirconium dioxide presents a melting point superior to 500 °C.
Data on constituents: Cerium dioxide >400°C - Zirconium dioxide: ca. 2700°C

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

A GLP-compliant study, scored as Klimisch 1 and flagged as a key study, is available on the reaction mass; giving a melting point value superior to 500°C (Demangel, 2010).

An experimental data, scored as Klimisch 2 (Weissenfeld, 2006), and literature information, scored as Klimisch 2 (CRC Handbook, 1991) or 4 (NIEHS, 2006; IRIS-EPA, 2009), are also available on cerium dioxide; giving consistently high melting point values.

Literature information on zirconium dioxide scored as Klimisch 2 (CRC Handbook, 2001 and Merck Index, 2006) also give consistently high melting point values (approx 2700 °C). Data on these constituents were thus selected as supporting studies.
