Description of key information

The inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when introduced in appropriate low concentrations.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Whole substance (CAS 192268 -65 -8)

In a respiration inhibition test according to OECD guideline 209 (RCC, 1997), respiration of domestic activated sludge was not inhibited at a test item concentration of 320 mg/L (NOEC) after 3 hours of exposure, the IC50 is >1000mg/L.

Structure A (CAS 597 -82 -0)

In a 3 hour acute toxicity study (Ciba-Geigy, 1988), sewage sludge micro-organisms were exposed to the test item at a nominal concentration of 100 mg/L in accordance with OECD 209. The IC50 value based on respiration rate was >100 mg/L after a 3 hour contact time. As no effects were observed the NOEC is expected to be at least 100mg/L.
