Biodegradation can be expected to be the most prominent degradation pathway in the environment. Based on the results of aerobic biodegradation studies isononanol can be expected to be readily biodegradable in the aqueous environment in the range of 71 to 82% in 28 days. This translates into a half life of 11.5 days. Being readily biodegrable means that isononanol is not expected to accumulate in any other environmental compartment neither. Isononal is completely mineralized, the breakdown products are CO2 and water only.
