Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Reading across from the parent acid, 1,2,4-triazole, it is predicted that the substance would be non-flammable if tested according to EU method A.10.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
non flammable

Additional information

The flammability of the parent acid, 1,2,4-triazole, was tested in a study by Robinson (2010) according to the EU Method A.10.  The registered substance is the sodium salt of the read-across substance, and is therefore composed of two parts, the anion of the read-across substance and a sodium(+) cation.  As sodium is an alkali metal, the sodium(+) cation is the highest oxidation state it can normally achieve, so this cation is not expected to contribute to the combustion exotherm of the registered substance in air by becoming further oxidised.  Viewing the registered substance as a mixture of a potentially flammable organic portion and a non-flammable sodium portion, the registered substance can be predicted to be less flammable than its parent acid, which is composed solely of the potentially flammable organic moiety.  Given that the parent acid was shown to be non-flammable according to EU method A.10, it can confidently be predicted that the registered substance also would be non-flammable if tested according to this method.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The substance does not meet the criteria for classification and labelling for this endpoint, as set out in Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008.
