Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

very high but hydrolysis occurs

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Because of the hydrolysis of dimethyl phosphonate exact experimental determination of the water solubility is not possible and the QSAR-calculations are not reliable without restriction. HSDB (2009) states a solubility of > 100 g/L.

Preparation of 10 % (w/v) of dimethyl phosphonate solution in deionized water, in HCl at pH 2 and in 0.1M sodium phosphate buffer at pH 7 and pH 8 was possible at room temperature (22°C) but hydrolysis was observed observed (Nomeir AA, Burka LT and Matthews HB (1988)).

Conclusion: Water solubility of dimethyl phosphonate is very high but hydrolysis occurs.
