Description of key information

Non flammable upon ignition.
The substance has no pyrophoric properties and does not emit flammable gases on contact with water.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Flammability is derived from flash point because the substance is a liquid.

Justification for classification or non-classification

According to the criteria of the DSD and the criteria of the CLP regulation the dimethyl phosphonate is not flammable upon ignition since the flash point is 70 °C at 1013 hPa (closed cup).

The structural formula of the test item contains none of the functional groups quoted in UN-RTDG, Manual of Tests and Criteria, appendix 6, article 5.3. Therefore according to the criteria of the CLP regulation the substance does not emit flammable gases in contact with water.

Experience in the performance of other tests shows that the substance does not ignite spontaneously on coming into contact with air at normal temperatures. Therefore according to the criteria of the CLP regulation the substance has no pyrophoric properties.
