The acute toxicity of 1,1-dimethylheptanethiol to Daphnia magna gave a 48-hour EC50 of 0.090 mg/L, based on the initial measured concentrations. The acute toxicity of 1,1 -dimethylheptanethiol to Daphnia magna was determined in a 48 -hour static renewal study following OECD guideline 202 (Goodband 2012). Due to the extremely volatile nature of the substance, effect concentrations were based on the initial measured concentrations.

On the basis of the toxicity data, 1,1 -dimethylheptanethiol is classified as acute category 1 'very toxic to aquatic life' and chronic category 1 'very toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects' under the CLP and R50/R53 'very toxic to aquatic organisms and may cause long-term adverse effects in the aquatic environment' under the DSD.
