Description of key information

Key study: Test method OECD 310. GLP study: Based on the read-across approach, dextro alpha fenchyl acetate was determined to be readily biodegradable under aerobic conditions.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Biodegradation in water:
readily biodegradable

Additional information

Key study: Read-across from experimental data on the analogue isobornyl acetate.

The ready biodegradability of the analogue isobornyl acetate was determined with a non adapted activated sludge over a test period of 28 days in the Headspace Test according to OECD Guideline 310. Test item was tested at 20 mg/l in triplicates (14.7 mg C/L). The biodegradation was followed by TIC analyses of the quantity of CO2 produced by the respiration of bacteria. The biodegradation of the test item was 76% after 28 days. The 10% level was reached after 3 days and the pass level of 60% after 7 days. All the validity criteria were met and isobornyl acetate was determined to be ready biodegradable. Based on these results the read-across approach was applied, and dextro alpha fenchyl acetate was also determined to be readily biodegradable.
