Phototransformation in air, water and soil

According to REACH Regulation (EC) 1907/2006 this information is not mandatory for a registration of a chemical at a tonnage band of 100 - 1000 tons/year. However, regarding phototransformation in air a QSAR prediction was performed for 2,4,6-triisopropyl-m-phenylene diisocyanate with the help of the computer program AOPWIN v1.92 (EPIWIN software) by US-EPA (Chemservice S.A., 2011). An atmospheric half-life of 0.280 days (around 3.40 hours) was predicted. Neither an ozone reaction nor any nitrate radical reaction is important.


In accordance to REACH, Annex VIII, Section, column 2, the study does not need to be conducted because of the low water solubility of the substance (0.005 mg/L, predicted by WSKOW v1.41, Chemservice S.A., 2011). The QSAR software HYDROWIN v2.00 (EPIWIN software) by US-EPA was used to predict the hydrolytic potential of the test substance, whereby ISOCYANATES were detected as hydrolysable substance class (Chemservice S.A., 2012). However, this is only a minor part of the chemical structure of 2,4,5-triisopropyl-m-phenylene diisocyanate and therefore, the basic phenolic structure of the compound is considered as hydrolytical stable.
