Description of key information

Flash point: 106 °C @ 101.0 kPa
Lower explosion limit: 0.7 %(v/v)
No pyrophoricity.
No flammability on contact with water.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
non flammable

Additional information

The key parameter for the flammability of a liquid is the flash point, which is discussed in IUCLID chapter 4.11.

Two published values are available for the lower explosion limit of 1,2 -bis(2 -methoxyethoxy)ethane. Each source is reporting consistently the same lower range limit of 0.7 %(v/v).

Considering the structure formula and experience in handling and use it can be stated that pyrophoricity and flammability on contact with water is not a concern for the substance (expert statement).

Justification for classification or non-classification

According to regulation 67/548/EEC Annex VI the substance does not meet the criteria for classification as "flammable".

Criteria for classification as "flammable": Liquid substance with a flash point of min. 21 °C and max. 55 °C.
