Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The substance was moderately toxic to freshwater algae in an acute study over a period of 72 hours (ErC50 = 36 mg/L).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
36 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
2.7 mg/L

Additional information

The acute toxicity of the substance 4'-methylacetophenone was studied under GLP using static conditions according to OECD TG 201. It was found that the substance inhibited the growth rate of the algae to a significant extent at a nominal concentration of 100 mg/L. The geometric mean of the measured concentration over 72 hours was 90.4 mg/L. The effect levels were determined on the basis of the geometric means of measured concentrations, resulting in a 72-hour EC50 value of 36 mg/L and a NOEC of 2.7 mg/L based on the inhibition of the algal growth rate.
