Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

First-aid measures

Ensure that the First Aid Personnel are aware of the product involved, and take precautions to protect themselves (e.g.

wear personal protection equipment). Remove affected person from danger area, lay him down. Remove soiled or soaked clothing immediately. Keep warm, calm and covered up. After contact or when concerned immediately seek medical advice.

Asure, that decontamination equipment (Polyethylene glycol 400 or PEG 300/Ethanol 2:1) is available near the working place.

If inhaled : Remove the casualty into fresh air and keep him calm. If breathing is irregular or stopped, administer artificial

respiration.

In case of skin contact : Because the substance can rapidely be resorbed through the skin, it is important to remove it from skin immediately. In case of contact with skin wash off immediately with polyethylene glycol 400, then with plenty of water.

In case of eye contact : In case of contact with the eyes rinse thoroughly with plenty of water or with an eye-cleaning solution for at least 20 min. Protect unharmed eye.

If swallowed : Do not Induce vomiting. Rinse mouth with water. If conscious give water, if available with 30-50 g of medical coal,  in small portions to drink.

Watch victim for several hours because of possible delayed signs of poisoning.

Depending on the presumable intake amount of "Phenol", a 4 to 8 hour contol of the beginning of adverse effects on the central nervous system, the blood circulation system, the liver and kidneys with Haematurie, Proteinurie, Oligurie, later Anurie and Uraemie is of importance.

Fire-fighting measures

Suitable extinguishing media : alcohol-resistant foam, Dry powder, Water spray jet

Unsuitable extinguishing media : High volume water jet, Carbon dioxide (CO2)

In case of fires, hazardous combustion gases are formed: Carbon monoxide (CO), Carbon dioxide (CO2)

Under certain conditions of combustion traces of other toxic substances cannot be excluded.

Use extinguishing measures that are appropriate to local circumstances and the surrounding environment.

Further information : Standard procedure for chemical fires. Please observe escape and rescue routes!

Special protective equipment for firefighters : Wear self-contained breathing apparatus and protective suit.

Accidental release measures

Use personal protective clothing. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Remove persons to safety.

The danger areas must be delimited and identified using relevant warning and safety signs.

Do not allow entry to drains, water courses or soil. Contain contaminated water/firefighting water.

Contain spillage. Avoid raising dust. Ttransfer to a container for disposal according to local regulations.

Handling and storage

The product should be handled under strictly controlled conditions as defined in Article 18 (4) REACH.

Avoid the formation and deposition of dust. Observe the usual precautions for handling chemicals. Avoid contact of the substance. Observe general rules of industrial hygiene and occupational protections measures.

In principle, with organic products which are -intentionally or unintentionally- in powdered form, the danger of a dust

explosion should be kept in mind. Take precautionary measures against electrostatic charges - earthing necessary during loading operations. Observe the general rules of industrial fire protection

Keep containers tightly closed in a dry, cool and wellventilated place. Protect from direct sunlight.

Do not store or transport together with foodstuffs.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Refill and handle product only in closed system. Dust must be extracted directly at the point of origin. Highly effective exhaust ventilation. Effective ventilation in all processing areas.

Protective measures : Do not inhale dust or fumes. Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothing. The type of protective equipment must be selected according to the concentration and amount of the dangerous substance at the specific workplace. Ensure that eye flushing systems and safety showers are located close to the working place.

Respiratory protection : Use respiratory protection unless adequate local exhaust ventilation is provided or exposure assessmentdemonstrates that exposures are within recommended exposure guidelines. Respirator with combination filter for vapour/particulate. Filter type A or AEBK is suitable.

Hand protection: Choose gloves to protect hands against chemicals depending on the concentration and quantity of the hazardous substance and specific to place of work. The selected protective gloves have to satisfy the specifications of EU Directive 89/686/EEC and the standard EN 374 derived from it. Take note of the information given by the producer concerning permeability and

break through times, and of special workplace conditions (mechanical strain, duration of contact).

Suitable: PVC, Butyl or nitrile rubber gloves. With solid dry substances permeation is not to be expected, therefore the breakthroughtime

for this protective glove has not been measured. Gloves must be inspected prior to use. Gloves should be discarded and replaced if there is any indication of degradation or chemical breakthrough. Gloves must be rinsed thoroughly after use.

If the substance is used as a hot melt, use thermally resistant gloves.

Eye protection : Safety glasses with side-shields conforming to EN166

Skin and body protection : Choose body protection in relation to its type, to the concentration and amount of dangerous substances, and to the specific workplace.

Suitable: Particle-tight protective clothes. If working with hot melt, thermally resistant clothes like impermeable rubber blanket may be required.

Hygiene measures : Do not eat, drink or smoke during work time. Remove soiled or soaked clothing immediately and clean

thoroughly before using again. Garments that cannot be cleaned must be destroyed (burnt). Keep away from food and drink.

Clean hands and face during work intervals and after work. Avoid contact of the substance.

Stability and reactivity

No dangerous reactions or decomposition known under the appropriate conditions of use.

The substance reacts with acids, bases and strong oxidising agents.

Disposal considerations

Special waste incineration plant, after consultation with operators. Observe local authority and EU regulations.

Packaging that cannot be cleaned should be disposed of as product waste.
