Results and Discussion

During the preliminary test, the log POWof MEXORYL SBU was estimated to be >1.60. Thus having the free choice between both methods, the HPLC-method was chosen to conduct the main test. Six common standards, which have known log POWvalues in the range of 0.9 to 4.2, were used as reference standards during the main test.

The MEXORYL SBU solution was injected three times and the combined reference solution was injected six times. The thiourea solution was injected three times. The log POWof the test item was calculated using a regression curve (log k' vs. log POW) and was found to be 1.92.The resultant log POWwas in the range of the estimated value found during the preliminary test.

The chromatography of the test item showed one sharp main peak with a well-defined and reproducible retention time. The HPLC method was therefore considered to be suitable for the purpose of the study. Based on the chromatographic data, MEXORYL SBU was considered to be stable during the test procedure.

Using the corresponding log POWvalues of the reference items from the OECD guideline, the regression coefficients were calculated. The log POWvalue of the test item was calculated from the calibration equation.

Conclusions:
During this study the partition coefficient (n-octanol / water) of MEXORYL SBU was determined and found to belog POW = 1.92 at 20 °Cusing the HPLC method. The pH of the test item solution was 7.82
Executive summary:

During this study the partition coefficient (n-octanol / water) of MEXORYL SBU was determined using the HPLC- method as described inDirective 92/69, A.8 “Partition Coefficient” (2008), the Council Regulation (EC) 440/2008, A.8 and in the OECD Guideline No. 117, “Partition Coefficient (n-Octanol / Water), High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) method” (2004).

Six common standards, which have known log POWvalues were used as reference standards. For the determination of the dead time a thiourea solution was used. From the regression curve (log k' vs. log POW) the n-octanol / water partition coefficient (log POW) of MEXORYL SBU was calculated and found to be

log POW = 1.92 at 20 °C.

The pH of the test item solution was 7.82.
