Additional information

No data on the toxicity to aquatic algae and cyanobacteria are available for 5 -chlorovaleryl chloride. As the substance is expected to rapidly hydrolyse in contact with water to form 5 -chlorovaleric acid (CAS 1119 -46 -6) and hydrogen chloride (CAS 7647-01-0), key information on the hydrolysis products was gathered.

For the hydrolysis product hydrogen chloride a growth inhibition test in freshwater green algae (P. subcapitata) according to OECD 201 is available (OECD SIDS, 2002). From this study a 72-h ErC50 value of 0.492 mg/L (acid equivalent to pH 5.3) and a 72-h NOErC value of 0.097 mg/L (acid equivalent to pH 6) were determined.

For the hydrolysis product 5 -chlorovaleric acid no toxicity data are available for aquatic algae.
