Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

PBT assessment: overall result

Reference
Name:
Naphthenic acids, zinc salts
Type of composition:
boundary composition of the substance
State / form:
solid: bulk
Reference substance:
Naphthenic acids, zinc salts
Reference substance:
Naphthenic acids, zinc salts
PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

Naphthenic acids, zinc salts is considered to be not persistent or very persistent.

Naphthenic acids, zinc salts is considered to have a low potential for bioaccumulation and is therefore not bioaccumulative or very bioaccumulative.

Naphthenic acids and zinc oxide are not carcinogenic, mutagenic or toxic for reproduction and data indicate that chronic toxicity and repeat dose specific target organ toxicity is not expected. Based on water accommodated fraction loading rates (WAF), naphthenic acids, zinc salts has a 96-hour LC50 for fish of >100 mg/L and a 48-hour EL50 for Daphnia magna of 35 mg/L. The 72h-NOELR for algae growth rate inhibition is 1.0 mg/L, when based on biological relevance, and the 72h-EL50 is 4.0 mg/L. Therefore, naphthenic acids, zinc salts is considered not to meet the criteria for T.

As naphthenic acids, zinc salts is not persistent, bioaccumulative or toxic, so it is not PBT or vPvB.

Likely routes of exposure:

Assessments of likely routes of exposure are not required for substances which are considered to be not PBT/vPvB.
