Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Administrative data

Endpoint:
short-term repeated dose toxicity: dermal
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
a short-term toxicity study does not need to be conducted because a reliable sub-chronic (90 days) or chronic toxicity study is available, conducted with an appropriate species, dosage, solvent and route of administration
Justification for type of information:
Zinc naphthenate is exclusively manufactured in situ in base oil and not in isolated form, so the potential for dermal contact with the isolated substance is low. Also, the use of the grease forms is expected to significantly lower the rate of adsorption through the skin, so exposure to humans via the dermal route will be unlikely to occur. The use of zinc naphthenate as grease thickeners under industrial exposure considerations precludes the relevance of the dermal route for repeated dose toxicity testing. On the assumption that the test substances will be prepared specifically for purposes for registration rather than being representative of material ‘placed on the market’, the conduct of a subacute toxicity study by the dermal route of exposure is not considered relevant for the substance.
