Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Reference
Endpoint:
boiling point
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
08 July 2016
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study without detailed documentation
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
other: EU Method A.1 (Melting / Freezing Temperature)
Deviations:
no
Qualifier:
equivalent or similar to guideline
Guideline:
other: OECD Guideline 102 (Melting point / Melting Range)
GLP compliance:
no
Type of method:
differential thermal analysis
Remarks:
Differential Thermal Analysis (DTA) / Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC)
Key result
Boiling pt.:
> 140 °C
Decomposition:
yes
Remarks on result:
other: In the range of approx. 142 °C and approx. 157 °C an endothermic effect could be detected

RESULT:

- In the range of approx. 142 °C and approx. 157 °C an endothermic effect could be detected

- It could not be exactly determined in which phase the decomposition took place

Validity criteria for the measurement of the boiling point:

Target condition according to guideline 92/69/EWG A.2:Actual condition according to the study:Validity criteria met:
The heating rate should not exceed 10 K/min.Heating rate was 5 K/min.Yes
The mean of at least two measurements which are in the range of the estimated accuracy (accuracy for this method according to the guideline is +/- 0.5 K up to 600 K) is reported as the boiling temperature. One value is determined with no definitive boiling point. No
The measured boiling temperatures and their mean shall be stated and the pressure(s) at which the measurements were made shall be reported in kPa. The pressure should preferably be close to normal atmospheric pressure. The atmospheric pressure is not stated.No. Nevertheless, although the pressure is not stated one can assume that the study was performed at atmospheric pressure as the study was performed according to guideline 92/69/EWG A.2, where specifications for the pressure are stated ("the boiling temperature is stated with regard to the ambient pressure during the measurement").

Conclusions:
The boiling point was higher than 140 °C. No pressure was reported. The study is regarded as valid, even though only one measurement was reported. No definitive boiling point could be determined.
Executive summary:

A differential thermal analysis (DTA)/differential scanning calorimetry (DSC)-system was used to determine the boiling point which conforms with the procedure Test method A.1, described in the EC-Guideline. In the range of approx. 142 °C and approx. 157 °C an endothermic effect could be detected which could be regarded as the boiling range of Bromhydrin-valerat. It cannot be exactly determined in which phase the decomposition took place. Therefore the boiling point was set to higher than 140 °C. No pressure was reported.

Description of key information

The boiling point was higher than 140 °C. No pressure was reported.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Boiling point at 101 325 Pa:
140 °C

Additional information

"Should read: >140 °C"

In the range of approx. 142 °C and approx. 157 °C an endothermic effect could be detected which could be regarded as the boiling range of Bromhydrin-valerat. It cannot be exactly determined in which phase the decomposition took place. Therefore the boiling point was set to higher than 140 °C. No pressure was reported.
