Description of key information

Biodegradation in water:

Estimation Programs Interface Suite (EPI suite, 2018) was run to predict the biodegradation potential of the test compound 2,3-bis[(4-methylbenzoyl)oxy]succinic acid (CAS no. 32634 -68 -7) in the presence of mixed populations of environmental microorganisms. The biodegradability of the substance was calculated using seven different models such as Linear Model, Non-Linear Model, Ultimate Biodegradation Timeframe, Primary Biodegradation Timeframe, MITI Linear Model, MITI Non-Linear Model and Anaerobic Model (called as Biowin 1-7, respectively) of the BIOWIN v4.10 software. The results indicate that chemical 2,3-bis[(4-methylbenzoyl)oxy]succinic acid is expected to be readily biodegradable.

Predicted data study for target chemical 2,3-bis[(4-methylbenzoyl)oxy]succinic acid (CAS no. 32634 -68 -7) and experimental studies for its read across chemical have been conducted and their results are summarized below.

 

The first study was predicted data study in this study the Estimation Programs Interface Suite (EPI suite, 2018) was run to predict the biodegradation potential of the test compound 2,3-bis[(4-methylbenzoyl)oxy]succinic acid (CAS no. 32634 -68 -7) in the presence of mixed populations of environmental microorganisms. Next study was experimental study reviewed from peer reviewed journal (1955) in this study an experiment was performed to determine BOD 5 value of test chemical by using O2 uptake BOD as parameter and warburg respirometry method at 25 oC. The BOD 5 value of test chemical was observed to be 0.30gO2/g by considering this value percent degradation obtained was 57 % in 5 days. On the basis of percent degradability test chemical is considered to be readily biodegradable in nature.

 

Another experimental study was reviewed from authoritative database in this study the test chemical was subjected to biodegradation test by taking activated sludge as inoculums at 30 mg/L concentration. Biodegradation was analysed by using three parameters namely BOD, TOC and HPLC. The initial concentration of test chemical was 100 mg/L. The test chemical showed 76 % biodegradability by BOD parameter 100 % by TOC and HPLC parameter by using activated sludge as inoculums in 14 days. On the basis of percent biodegradability it is concluded that test chemical is readily biodegradable.

 

On the basis of results of all the studies mentioned above it can be concluded that test chemical 2,3-bis[(4-methylbenzoyl)oxy]succinic acid (CAS no. 32634 -68 -7) is readily biodegradable in nature.
