The substance is a pale yellow liquid at ambient temperature, soluble in water, with low vapour pressure. Therefore, no significant volatilisation is expected under environmental conditions. It is surface active, and its potential for bioaccumulation is inconclusive based on log Kow, but cannot be excluded.

It is not classified as hazardous with regard to physical hazards (flammability, explosivity, oxidising properties). However, due to its high alkalinity, corrosivity potential to metals cannot be excluded.
