Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Justifications and discussions

Category definition:
bulk and nanoform of CeO2
Category rationale:
CATEGORY HYPOTHESIS
It is hypothesized that whatever the size, the surface area or the shape, the non-surface treated virtually insoluble forms of cerium dioxide will form aggregates/agglomerates and thus, will have similar distribution and similar behavior in living organisms. Therefore, it could be claimed that the source and the target substances will have qualitatively similar (eco)-toxicological properties.
Therefore, the missing toxicological data (listed below) on the target substances can be predicted from the available studies conducted with the source substances.

CATEGORY JUSTIFICATION
Please find attached the report for justification

APPLICABILITY DOMAIN OF THE CATEGORY
The category applies to non-coated nano- and bulk forms of cerium oxide with various sizes, specific surface area and shapes, in the limit of those described in this dossier.
The scientific assessment is based on the scenario 6 proposed in the RAAF document:Scenario 6 covers the category approach for which the read-across hypothesis is based on different compounds with qualitatively similar properties
