Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Two studies with earthworms are available. One study was performed according to Guideline OECD 207. A LC50 of 401 mg/kg was reproted. Considering a standard content of organic matter of 3.4 % instead of 10 % (artificial soil), a LC50 of 136 mg/kg is achieved.

Additional information

The data on effects of phenol on terrestrial soil organisms is presented in EU RAR (2006) in Section 3.2.3 (Terrestrial compartment, page 44ff).

The procedure of the earthworm study used as key study was equivalent to OECD Guideline 207. Mortality of earthworms in artificial soil was investigated. Each test concentration was tested in four replicates of 10 earthworms (300 - 500 mg each) in 400 g artificial soil dry weight. Test duration was 14 days. The LC 50 was 401 mg/kg artificial soil. Recalculation of the LC50 considering a substrate of a standard content of organic matter of 3.4 % results in a LC50 of 136 mg/kg soil.
