Description of key information

The LC50 for fishes exposed to dimethylammonium 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetate was determined to be 326 mg test material/L (168.14 mg a.i./L)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The acute toxicity of dimethylammonium 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetate (CAS No. 2008-39-1) to fish species was investigated in a study (Raszka, 1995). This test was conducted according to OECD Guideline No. 203: Fish, Acute Toxicity Test (1992). The test organisms (Cyprinus carpio) were exposed to this substance for 96 hours under static water conditions. In the study a LC50 of 326 mg test substance/L (corresponding to 168 mg a.i./L) is reported. Other authors (Bogers and Enninga, 1990; European Comission, 2001) found similar values, testing this substance and its main degradation product (2,4 -dichlorophenoxyacetic acid) in Oncorhynchus mykiss,Cyprinus carpio and Pimephales promelas under comparable conditions (OECD Guideline 203, EPA/FIFRA E 72-3), obtaining LC50 values of 240 a.i., 560-1000 a.i., and 100 mg a.i./L respectively.
