Conclusion on classification

The substance is classified as Aquatic acute 1 becasue the read-across short term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates EC50 is <1 mg/L (0.8 mg/L Bengtsson et al. 1984).

In addition reaction mass of 2-butylheptan-1-ol and 2-ethylnonan-1-ol and 2-methyldecan-1-ol and 2-propyloctan-1-ol is readily biodegradable and the long-term predictions for invertebrates indicate that the NOEC is between 0.01 and 1 mg/l (21 day NOEC 0.04 -0.17 mg/l).

Therefore, the substance is classified as Chronic Category 2 for the environment in the EU according to Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008.
