Additional information

The water solubility of Stearic acid, esters with methyl α-D-glucoside was determined according to the slow stir method described in ECHA Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment, chapter R.7a, May 2008.

Samples were stirred at <100 rpm for 72 h. The concentration of the test item was determined by carbon analysis.

The solubility of the test item is in the range of the blank values.

The water solubility of Stearic acid, esters with methyl α-D-glucoside is <1 mg/L at 23°C.

This finding is supported by a calculation of the water solubility of Stearic acid, esters with methyl α-D-glucoside:

Stearic acid, esters with methyl α-D-glucoside is a mixture of all isomers of mono- to tetraesters and free carboxylates (acids) moeities. Because of the chemical complexity of the composition of the test substance, the calculation of physico-chemical properties for the mixture is not feasible. To get a hint on the physico-chemical data, a calculation was conducted for mono-, di-, tri- and tetraesters.

A water solubility of 0.0003594 mg/L, 1.511E-13 mg/L, 7.328E-22 mg/L, and 2.44E-31 mg/L at 25°C for mono-, di-, tri- and tetraester, respectively was calculated using EpiWeb v 4.00, WSKOW v1.42 and taking into account the estimated log Kow of 7.67; 16.61; 24.83 and 33.18. A water solubility of 26.717 mg/L, 7.2713E-07 mg/L, 9.936E-07 mg/L and 1.2601E-06 mg/L was calculated using the fragment method. According to the classification Stearic acid, esters with methyl α-D-glucoside can be regarded as insoluble (based on the EpiWeb estimate for log Kow) and slightly soluble (monoester, based on the results of the fragment method). Due to missing information about the applicability of the calculation model in respect to the substance under investigation the results should be treated with care.

Similar results – insoluble to slightly soluble – were obtained in a test according to OECD Guideline 105 and EU Method A.6 for the water solubility of the read-across substance Isostearic acid, esters with methyl α-D-glucoside. A preliminary test resulted in a water solubility of 10 mg/L. In a second test the water solubility was determined to be 0.5 mg/L.
