First-aid measures

General Advice:

If symptoms persist, call a physician. Show this safety data sheet to the doctor in attendance. Do not breathe dust/fume/gas/mist/vapors/spray. Do not get in eyes, on skin, or on clothing.

Eye contact:

Immediately flush with plenty of water. After initial flushing, remove any contact lenses and continue flushing for at least 15 minutes. Keep eye wide open while rinsing. If symptoms persist, call a physician.

Skin contact:

Wash off immediately with soap and plenty of water removing all contaminated clothes and shoes. If skin irritation persists, call a physician.

Ingestion:

Rinse mouth. Drink plenty of water. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Do not induce vomiting without medical advice. Consult a physician.

Inhalation:

Move to fresh air in case of accidental inhalation of vapors. Artificial respiration and/or oxygen may be necessary. Avoid direct contact with skin. Use barrier to give mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. If symptoms persist, call a physician.

Protection of first-aiders:

Use personal protective equipment. Do not use mouth-to-mouth method if victim ingested or inhaled the substance; induce artificial respiration with the aid of a pocket mask equipped with a one-way valve or other proper respiratory medical device.

Notes to Physician:

Causes sensitization Use of epinephrine may be indicated Treat symptomatically.

Fire-fighting measures

Suitable Extinguishing Media:

Carbon dioxide (CO2). Dry chemical.

Extinguishing media which must not be used for safety reasons:

Water.

Special exposure hazards arising from the substance or preparation itself, combustion products, resulting gases:

Reacts vigorously and/or explosively with water. Thermal decomposition can lead to release of irritating gases and vapors.

Special protective equipment for fire-fighters:

As in any fire, wear self-contained breathing apparatus and full protective gear.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures:

Use personal protective equipment. Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothing. Evacuate personnel to safe areas. Keep people away from and upwind of spill/leak.

DO NOT GET WATER on spilled substance or inside containers. Refer to protective measures listed in Sections 7 and 8.

Environmental precautions:

Prevent entry into waterways, sewers, basements or confined areas. Prevent product from entering drains. Prevent further leakage or spillage if safe to do so. Local authorities should be advised if significant spillages cannot be contained.

Methods and materials for containment and cleaning up:

Soak up with inert absorbent material (e.g. sand, silica gel, acid binder, universal binder, sawdust). Keep in suitable, closed containers for disposal. Prevent contact with water. Do NOT use water for clean-up

Neutralize with the following product(s): Mixture of 15% t-butyl alcohol, 65% mineral/paraffin oil, and 20% butyl acetate. 100 grams of solution reacts with 42 grams of product. Product is neutralized slowly as it reacts with the t-butyl alcohol. CO2 will be liberated slowly. Do not seal containers.

Handling and storage

Handling:

Wear personal protective equipment. Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothing. Remove and wash contaminated clothing before reuse. Do not breathe vapors or spray mist. Use only in area provided with appropriate exhaust ventilation. In case of insufficient ventilation, wear suitable respiratory equipment. Do not eat, drink or smoke when using this product. Reacts violently with water.

Hygiene Measures:

When using, do not eat, drink or smoke. Provide regular cleaning of equipment, work area and clothing. Wash hands and face before breaks and immediately after handling the product. Remove and wash contaminated clothing before re-use.

Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities:

Keep container tightly closed in a dry and well-ventilated place. Keep in properly labeled containers. Keep out of the reach of children. Store at ambient conditions.

Exposure controls / personal protection

1. Technical protection measures: Showers, eyewash stations, and ventilation systems in the immediate vicinity of where the substance is used. Use only with application of the operational conditions and risk management measures as specified in the exposure scenarios.

2. Organisational protection measures: Prevent product from entering drains. Local authorities should be advised if significant spillages cannot be contained.

3. Hand protection: Impervious gloves in accordance with EN 374. Nitrile rubber. Single-use nitrile gloves of 0.2 mm thick are acceptable for products containing less than 1% PTSI.

4. Feet protection: No information available.

5. Body protection: Lightweight protective clothing. Apron. Long sleeved clothing.

6. Eye protection: Tightly fitting safety goggles. Face-shield.

7. Respiratory protection: In case of insufficient ventilation wear suitable respiratory equipment. Wear a positive-pressure supplied-air respirator in accordance with EN 529 in case of any aerosol formation during activities and especially spraying activities with the substance at concentrations above 0.1% (due to the respiratory sensitisation risk of PTSI). If a filter is used it should be an organic filter that is disposed of after each use.

Stability and reactivity

Chemical stability:

Stable under recommended storage conditions. Reacts violently with water. Stable up to 170°C.

Possibility of hazardous reactions:

Hazardous polymerization does not occur. Reacts violently with water.

Conditions to avoid:

Exposure to water. Exposure to air or moisture. Excessive heat.

Incompatible materials:

Water Alcohols Amines Acids. Strong bases. Strong oxidizing agents.

Hazardous decomposition products:

Exposure to moisture: p-Toluene sulfonamide. Carbon dioxide (CO2). May emit toxic fumes under fire conditions. Carbon monoxide (CO). Nitrogen oxides (NOx). Hydrogen cyanide. Sulfur oxides.

Disposal considerations

Waste from Residues / Unused Products:

Waste is classified as hazardous. Dispose of in accordance with local regulations.

Contaminated Packaging:

Do not re-use empty containers. Dispose of in accordance with local regulations.
