Test system

Type of coverage:
occlusive
Preparation of test site:
shaved
Vehicle:
unchanged (no vehicle)
Controls:
no
Amount / concentration applied:
The test substance (0.5 mL) was applied to shaved back of 4 rabbits. The test substance was applied on a gauze pad with an area of approximately 4 cm2. The gauze pad was occluded. After 4 hours, the test substance was removed by washing the test site with water/lutrol (1/1). The site was dried. After removal skin was scored for erythema and edema (4h, 24h, 48, and 8 days). The following scoring system was used: 0 (no reaction), 1 (questionable), 2 (mild).
Duration of treatment / exposure:
4 hours
Observation period:
8 days

Any other information on results incl. tables

All animals at all scoring points showed grade 2 (mild) scores for erythema. This was accompanied by strong scaling on day 8. Edema (grade 2) were noted in 2 of 4 animals after 4h, in all animals after 24 and 48 h. On day 8 grade 1 edema (3 of 4 animals) and grade 2 edema (1 of 4 animals) were noted.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Interpretation of results:
irritating
Remarks:
Migrated information Criteria used for interpretation of results: expert judgment
Conclusions:
The results strongly suggest that Dehydrolinalool should be considered a skin irritant
Executive summary:

Although group mean scores from 24 to 72 h cannot be calculated the results strongly suggest that Dehydrolinalool should be considered a skin irritant especially in the light of irreversibility within 8 days.
