Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The test item is not readily biodegradable, i.e. observed biodegradation was 2% after 28 days (OECD 301D, 2003)

Additional information

A reliable test on ready biodegradation of the test item was conducted according to OECD 301D (Closed Bottle Test) and in compliance with GLP (RL1, 2003). Biodegradability was determined by measuring the amount of oxygen taken up by the microbial population over the 28 day test period. After 28 days, the oxygen consumption for the test substance at a concentration of 5 mg/L resulted in 2% biodegradation. As degradation was less than 60%, these results indicate that 3-chloro-o-xylene was not readily biodegradable under test conditions. The study fulfilled the validity criteria of the test guideline OECD 301D and was considered reliable and adequate for the environmental hazard assessment.
