Description of key information

No data is available for Dowfax 3B2, but based other members of the ADPODS (Dowfax 8390 and Dowfax C6L), and it is concluded that DOWFAX 3B2 surfactant is hydrolytically stable.

Additional information

No data is available for Dowfax 3B2, but based other members of the ADPODS (Dowfax 8390 and Dowfax C6L).

DOWFAX 8390 -D surfactant is the dry form of a diphenyloxide based anionic surfactant which consists of disodium di- and monohexadecyldiphenyloxide disulfonate. The material was assessed on its hydrolytic stability at different pH values (determination of the hydrolysis as a function of the pH) according to the Directive 92/69/EEC, part C.7 and OECD Guideline Number 11 1. The hydrolysis study was conducted at 50 degree C at pH of 4.0, 7.0 and 9.0 without the presence of oxygen in the reaction vessel. The concentration of the test substance was determined by High Pressure Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). DOWFAX 8390 -D surfactant concentration did not decrease after incubation of up to 5 days. Correspondingly, the material is hydrolytically stable.

DOWFAX Dry Hydrotrope Powder showed no significant decrease in concentration after incubation at 50 C at pH 4.0, 7.0 and 9.0 for up to 5 days. At pH 4.0 still 94 % of the original concentration could be found after 5 days, whereas for pH 7.0 and 9.0 the 5-day figures were 98 and 101 %, respectively. Correspondingly, the material can be termed to be hydrolytically stable.
