Additional information

According to Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006, Annex VII, Column 2, the study does not need to be conducted if the substance is incapable of reacting exothermically with combustible material, for example, on the basis of the chemical structure. In the Technical Report on Development of an Enhanced Hazard Classification System for Oxidizing Chemicals (Ed.,Buc, EC and Hoffman, DJ) by the National Fire Protection Foundation (April, 2006, Quincy, MA, U.S.A.), oxidizing chemicals are characterized as having an oxygen or halide molecule in their chemical structure, which can undergo oxidation/reduction reactions. As this molecule contains no oxygen or halide, it is not considered as an oxidizing chemical, and is not expected to increase the combustion of other substances. The data meets the criteria of Annex VII. Column 2, and so the testing requirement can be adapted.

Justification for classification or non-classification

According to Regulation (EC) No.1272/2008, potassium cyanide is not classified as oxidiser.
