Additional information

Toluene is considered to be readily biodegradable. Toluene is also expected to have low potential for bioaccumulation and adsorption to soil and sediment based on its experimental log Kow of 2.73. Structural analysis of the toluene molecule indicates that it is not expected to undergo hydrolysis in the environment due to the lack of hydrolysable functional groups. The physico-chemical properties of toluene indicate that the majority of this substance will ultimately partition to the atmosphere where it is quickly photo-oxidised with a calculated half-life of 2.59 days.

Toluene is not expected to persist in the environment because it is readily biodegradable, has a low potential for adsorption to organic matter and has a low potential for bioaccumulation.
