In accordance with REACH Regulation 1907/2006, Annex IX and X, Column 2, tests of short- and long-term toxicity do not need to be conducted as direct and indirect exposure of the soil compartment is unlikely. The substance has little potential to adsorb to soil and is not persistent, being rapidly degraded in both aqueous and soil environments.
A contact screening test of toxicity to earthworms has been reported in the literature, the work being undertaken using OECD test methods. The LC50 of diethyl phthalate was 0.85 mg/cm2.
