Additional information

Short term toxicity to fish

The lethal concentration (LC50) value of Piperazine compound with phosphoric acid in fish (Pimephales promelas) in a 96 hr study on mortality effect was estimated to be 1000 mg/L.Thus,considering the CLP Criteria for aquatic classification of the substance , it is concluded that Piperazine compound with phosphoric acid does not exhibit short term toxicity to fish (Pimephales promelas).

However, since this chemical has a harmonized classifcation as "Aquatic Chronic 3" category, the same shall be considered for this chemical.

Long term toxicity to fish

According to column I of annex IX, long-term toxicity testing on fish need not to be conducted as it is already provided as part of Annex VIII requirements. Therefore this study was considered for waiver.

Short term toxicity to aquatic invertebrate

The acute toxicity of piperazine to Daphnia magna was investigated in a 48-hour static immobilisation test, the 48 hours EC50 was determined to be 21 mg/L, with a 95% confidence interval of 13-34 mg/L, based on nominal concentrations. This chemical has a harmonized classification of "Aquatic Chronic 3" category. The LC50 value from the read-across chemical is 21 mg/L; a value which supports the harmonized classification. Thus, the read across value has been used for the chemical safety assessment.

Long term toxicity to aquatic invertebrate

The no observed effect concentration (NOEC) was determined to be 12.5 mg/L (nominal) on the basis of "immobilization" observed in Daphnia magna in a 21 day semi-static test.

Toxicity to aquatic algae and cyanobacteria

The effective concentration (EC50) value of Piperazine compound with phosphoric acid in algae (Selenastrum capricornutum) on mortality effect was estimated to be 479.618 mg/L. Thus, considering the CLP Criteria for aquatic classification of the substance , it is concluded that Piperazine compound with phosphoric acid does not exhibit short term toxicity to aquatic algae.

However, since this chemical has a harmonized classifcation as "Aquatic Chronic 3" category, the same shall be considered for this chemical.

Toxicity to micro-organisms

The inhibitory growth concentration (IGC50) value of Piperazine compound with phosphoric acid in Tetrahymena pyriformis in a 46 h study on growth inhibition effect was estimated to be 1467.231 mg/L.Thus,considering the CLP Criteria for aquatic classification of the substance , it is concluded that Piperazine compound with phosphoric acid does not exhibit toxicity to microorganisms.
