Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The lowest chronic NOEC or EC10 for fish, 76 µg V/L, was observed for the effect of V2O5 in a 30-day growth test with second generation flagfish larvae (Jordanella floridae) originating from exposed fish (Holdway and Sprague, 1979).

Read-across

Slags, steelmaking, vanadium is a sparingly soluble UVCB substance that upon dissolution may release minor amounts of vanadium and insignificant amounts of other elements. Thus, regarding the environmental toxicity (if any), vanadium is the moiety of concern. Reliable data (all Klimisch 2) were available for four freshwater species: Pimephales promelas, Poecilia reticulata, Jordanella floridae and Clarias batrachus. Tests were all based on pentavalent V substances (NaVO3, NH4VO3 or V2O5). Chronic NOEC or EC10-values were situated between 76 µg V/L and 870 µg V/L. No reliable data are available for the long-term toxicity of vanadium substances to marine fish. All results are based on total dissolved V concentrations.
