Description of key information
In two different reports three samples were tested:
Report 1:
PDTN sample CFC 5512, 10% of the particles is smaller than 90 µm, 50% of the particles is smaller than290 µm and 90% of the particles is smaller than490 µm PDTN sample CFC 5514, 10% of the particles is smaller than 55µm, 50% of the particles is smaller than 230 µm and 90% of the particles is smaller than 430 µm .In addition, 0.6 to 1 %of the PDTN particles is smaller than 10µm, and therefore, only a small fraction is considered respirable
Report2:
PDTN sample JNN98038, 0.4 % of the particles is smaller than 63 µm, 5.2 % of the particles is between 63 and 250 µm and 94.4% of the particles is larger than 250 µm.
Additional information
The particle size distribution is very dependent on the production and handling of the samples. For instance clogging, moisture and aging can cause a change in particle size. Especially for this sample - being a wet cake - stability in particle size distribution is not the case.
For the different samples tested - in summary - only 0.6 to 1% of the PDTN particles is smaller than 10 µm or 0.4% of the particles is smaller than 63 µm. As such only a small fraction is considered respirable. Moreover being a wet cake the substance is not likely to swirl.
