Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

The DSC measurement was conducted for a study according to A.14. (closed glass crucible) and showed a melting point at approximately 73.76 °C.

Description of key information

The value for the melting point was determined in an experimental study performed equivalent or similar to OECD 102 (BASF AG, 1989). The boiling point of phthalide was found to be 73.27 °C.

In a second experimental study performed according to OECD 113, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC, closed crucible) measurements showed a melting point at approximately 73.76 °C which is in line with other reported values (Winkler, 2018).

In addition, the melting point of phthalide was reported to be in the range of 70-75 °C according to the Knovel Critical Tables (2nd Edition).

Key value for chemical safety assessment
