Description of key information
Appearance:
On the basis of physical observation ,the chemical 5H-Dibenzo(a,d)cyclohepten-5-one was observedto be white to light yellow coloured powder in appearance
Melting point:
The melting point determination of Dibenzo[b,f]cyclohepten-1-one (CAS No. 2222-33-5) was done following OECD Guideline 102 and according to the metal block capillary method. The test was conducted in replicates and mean melting temperature range was determined to be 87.8 °C -94.1°C at 971.8hPa.
Boiling point:
The boiling point determination of Dibenzo[b,f]cyclohepten-1-one (CAS No. 2222-33-5) was done following OECD Guideline 103 and according to the method of Siwoloboff. The test item melts a above 88°C, but no string of bubbles were observed up to 300°C, inferring b.p. to be greater than 300°C. at 972.1 hPa.
Density:
The density of test item Dibenzo[b,f]cyclohepten-1-one (CAS No. 2222-33-5)was determined following OECD Guideline 109 and according to the Adapted from ASTM D854-02 using glass pyknometer .The mean density of test item is determined to be 0.8801 g/cm³at 20 °C and 973.7 hPa.
Particle Size Distribution:
The particle size distribution of test item Dibenzo[b,f]cyclohepten-1-one (CAS No. 2222-33-5 ) was determined by granulometric analysis with rotap sieve shaker. The particle size distribution was determined to be in the range of 150 micron to 25 micron
Vapour Pressure:
Data from authoritative and modeling databases suggests that the estimated vapour pressure of Dibenzo[b,f]cyclohepten-1-one at 25 deg C was 4.29E-005 mm Hg = 0.00572 Pa.
Partition Coefficient:
The partition Coefficient n-octanol/water of Dibenzo[b,f]cyclohepten-1-one(CAS No.2222-33-5) was determined by the Reverse Phase High Performance Liquid Chromatographic method according to OECD Guideline No. 117 for testing of Chemicals. The reference substances were chosen according to estimated Pow range of the test substance and generalized calibration graph was prepared. The reference substances were having Pow value ranging from 0.5 to 4.6. The Log Pow value was determined to be 3.5083 ± 0.001 at 25°C.
Water Solubility:
The water solubility determination of test substance Dibenzo[b,f]cyclohepten-1-one was done as per the shake flask method. The solubility was determine to be 4.5815 mg/L at 25°C.. Thus the chemical is considered to be slightly soluble.
Surface tension:
Based on the data from ACD labs, surface tension for 5H-dibenzo[a,d]cyclohepten-5-one was predicted to be 48.1±3.0 dyne/cm.
Flash point:
The flash point determination of 5H-dibenzo[a,d]cyclohepten-5-one (CAS No. 2222-33-5)was done following closed cup method using Pensky-Martens flash point apparatus. The test was conducted in replicates and mean flash point was determined to be 161.6°C at 972.5hPa. Based on criteria mentioned in CLP regulation the chemical has flash point >than 60 degree C hence the 5H-dibenzo[a,d]cyclohepten-5-one was considered to be non-flammable.
Autoflammability:
5H-dibenzo[a,d]cyclohepten-5-one did not catch fire on being exposed to air at room temperature of 27°C and atmospheric pressure of 966 hPa. This indicates that 5H-dibenzo[a,d]cyclohepten-5-one is not auto-flammable.
Flammability:
5H-dibenzo[a,d]cyclohepten-5-one does not indicate any ignition when the flame of bunsen burner having temperature of approximately 950°C is brought in contact with it. Thus it can be concluded that 5H-dibenzo[a,d]cyclohepten-5-one is not flammable at high temperature. However since such high temperatures are not found under normal circumstances of transportation and use, thus 5H-dibenzo[a,d]cyclohepten-5-one was considered non-flammable for chemical safety assessment.
Explosivenss:
The study does not need to be conducted because there are no chemical groups present in the molecule which are associated with explosive properties
Oxidising properties:
The study does not need to be conducted because there are no chemical groups present in the molecule which are associated with explosive properties
pH:
The pH determination of test item 5H-dibenzo[a,d]cyclohepten-5-one (CAS No 2222-33-5) was done following OECD guideline 122. pH of 1% w/v dispersion was measured with the help of pH meter and it was observed to be 6.37at 29 °C. Thus, 1% solution can be considered to be near neutral in pH.
Viscosity:
The study does not need to be conducted because the substance is a solid
