Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Shale oils, heavy is a liquid at room temperature and so conducting a flammability study for solids or gasses would not be feasible.
In addition to this, experience of use determines that neither a pyrophoric properties study nor a flammability in contact with water
study need to be carried out as there is no evidence of shale oils, heavy either spontaneously igniting in air at room temperature or
exhibiting flammable properties in contact with water.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

non flammable

Additional information

Justification for classification or non-classification

Shale oils, heavy is not known to exhibit pyrophoric properties, nor flammability in contact with water. In addition, a flammability study is not technically feasible on a liquid. On these bases, no classification with regards to flammability is required according to Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008.
